A sunny Easter break...

Not a great deal to update our readers on this time around!

We have been enjoying the lovely weather both here in North Wales and down in our Southern office in The new Forest over the Easter break.

Several exciting developments are in the pipeline, one is our new membership of www.checkatrade.com which will hopefully be fully live in the next 10 days or so.  If we have carried out work for you, then expect a customer monitoring card through the post any day soon, all feedback gratefully received!

We have changed our insurers to Trust insurance and have been very impressed with their speedy service, all our public liability, professional indemnity and employers policies are through them now.

We are tied up at the moment on a variety of surveying and Health and Safety projects and are now offering support for companies looking to achieve Achilles UVDB and Link-up accreditations.

That's all for now... enjoy the sunshine...

As one door closes...

Throughout my business career, the months have been punctuated between extreme elation at 'winning that big contract', desperation 'how are we going to deliver this on time and to budget' and despair 'this contract finishes next week, what next?'.

I think as a small business owner it is important to relax, if your are treating your clients correctly and promoting yourself in the right circles then that next instruction will come.

We at Woodland Solutions are nearing the conclusion of a large surveying tender in the Midlands which has tied up 3 surveyors and office support since Mid-January.  Just as my mind starts to wander we have enquiries come in for business support in Scotland, health and safety support to a tree surgery company in North Wales, sub-contract consultancy in Lincolnshire and a large trees in relation to construction package in London.  We get about!

I have taken a couple of hours out from planning our work load today to read the latest copy of the Arboricultural Associations 'Arb Magazine' which arrived just in time to fire up the kettle this morning.  I like many of my peers used to dismiss the Arboricultural Association, now I find I increasingly look forward to reading their publications.  Many of our staff will be going on courses with the AA this year as part of their continued professional development.  If you haven't already, check them out: www.trees.org.uk

Well back to the typing I suppose!

The in's and out's of it...

Well what a week we have had this week!  We have been mainly working on a geographical information system for a housing association in the West Midlands.  Three specialist surveyors have been on this full time for two weeks now with office support when required.  They are building up a database of information so the GIS teams can access up to date tree data at their figure tips.

We have also carried out a visual tree assessment and report for two single trees in a domestic setting in North Wales, a couple of PICUS sonic tomographs where the internal condition of a tree is built up in a 2d image using the principle that sound wood conducts sound waves better than decayed wood.  Some arboricultural site supervision work on a building site and some Health and Safety support for a tree surgeons in North Wales.

We are finding the Health and Safety role is one that is becoming increasingly called upon from the arboricultural industry, our support enables companies to get through the rigorous post tender assessments that actually allow them to get onto site and carry out what they do best!

For example we have recently produced to site health and safety folders, one for a large road scheme and one for a wind farm, we will then go to site and make sure all present fully understand the information before work commences.  It is no good instructing a consultancy to prepare documents you don't understand!  We fully believe our support service are second to none.

Thanks to Brett, Rob, Matt, Anne and Kevin for working so hard this week!
